Head Start Coach
Location: Clare, travel required
- Responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Practice Based Coaching Model as required by the Head Start Performance Standards and state and federal mandates.
- Ensure quality program service delivery.
- Protect the privacy of customers/families and hold in confidence all information obtained in the course of service.
- Utilize the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Act, GSRP Implementation Manual, the Early Childhood Standards of Quality, Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, and Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers, to ensure programs requirements are met.
- Build relationships with staff based on mutual respect.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, practice conflict resolution skills, have an ongoing commitment to learning; possess good observation skills, model best practices working with young children.
- Ensure that education staff are providing a developmentally appropriate classroom environment using Creative Curriculum, School Readiness goals, Conscious Discipline, PQA, CLASS and Early Learning Framework.
- Provide coaching to the learners that supports their professional skill development to help them gain knowledge they need to provide high quality services to children and families.
- Provide assigned learners with professional and relationship based coaching using the Practice Based Coaching model and the Creative Curriculum coaching guide that are designed to increase the quality of teacher child interactions as measured by CLASS & PQA using research based methods and strategies to increase measureable child outcomes.
- Regularly retrieve and review data with their learner to inform and improve day to day opportunities for children in their classrooms.
- Follow the observation schedule when observing/monitoring classrooms.
- Check in with staff on a regular basis to offer support and guidance. Submit copies of the observations to the Education manager at the end of each month.
- Work with the Education Manager to organize and facilitate project guided communities and study groups that embed current research shown to improve teacher knowledge and child outcomes.
- Work with Education Manager and Management Team to identify improvement areas to impact ongoing work of the project, classroom and individual learner’s level.
- Maintain Outlook to accurately reflect weekly activities.
- Travel within two county area to provide coaching model.
- Attend required meetings.
- Meet on a regular basis with Education Manager.
- Attend community events and meetings as needed to support the agency programs including evening and weekend events/meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Qualifications
- Shall be of responsible character and suitable to work with young children.
- Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in group facilitation and collaborative work preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- CLASS reliable preferred. Must obtain within first year of employment.
- PQA reliable preferred. Must obtain within first year of employment.
- Family Service Credential required during the second year of employment or first available class thereafter.
- Knowledge of Teaching Strategies Gold and Creative Curriculum preferred.
- Must complete 15 hours of annual training in addition to CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen training.
- Possess a solid knowledge base with respect to child development and family services and seek to expand knowledge.
- Ability to work independently and keep accurate records.
- Must have good communication and organizational skills and be able to work effectively with people.
- Must be self-directed, mulit-tasked and able to coordinate the completion of assigned tasks and be willing to accept new challenges on a daily basis.
- Must have Proficient Computer Skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet).
- Proficient in web based platforms, video uploading, Skype communication and use of iPads.
- Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, provide proof of insurance, pass State Police criminal clearance check and MMCAA’s “Insurance Carriers” driving record review.
- Successfully complete Criminal History and DHS clearance procedures at time of hire and when requested at any time during employment.
- Shall provide written report by a physician stating their physical capability and freedom from communicable tuberculosis.
- Must be able to lift and carry a child weighing 45 pounds in an emergency situation.
- Must be physically capable of performing CPR (with appropriate training).
- Must be able to work at the same level as a preschool child –bend, sit on floor or child’s chair, squat.
- Must comply with Agency smoke free and drug free policies.
- Must understand the importance of daily attendance.
