WIC Specialist

Location: Midland

Responsible for setting up appointments, basic intake procedures, maintaining files and financial records as required by regulations. Perform routine clerical duties.

General Responsibilities

1) Assist with the development, implementation and coordination of the overall activities for the clerk/technical area.

Specific Duties

1) Perform all clerk typing, benefit issuance and complete intake information for WIC program.

2) Maintain customer MI-WIC data as required by the agency, local, state and federal regulations.

3) Answer telephone, set up WIC appointments and do basic intake.

4) Data input into MI-WIC system.

5) Provide blood level checks for lead and iron, height and weight screening, and input client data into MI-WIC system.

6) Greet customers, secure necessary information, and ensure that they are processed in a timely manner.

7) Be supportive to breastfeeding mothers and refer as needed for problem solving/support.

8) Make necessary referrals based on client needs.

9) Document nutrition education completed by education boards/wichealth.org for secondary education.

10) Verify Medicaid eligibility as needed.

11) Run/check immunization status of child by use of Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR).

12) Participate in personal and professional development activities.

13) Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Additional Requirements:

1) Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

2) Two or more years in related work.

3) Must be familiar with various data collection systems and techniques.

4) Must have proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet)

5) Knowledgeable of delivering quality programs in a multi-service setting.

6) Demonstrated communication skills both oral and written.

7) Successful clearance of DHS Central Registry, criminal history record check and personal credit report.

8) Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, provide proof of insurance, pass State Police criminal clearance check and MMCAA’s “Insurance Carriers” driving record review.

9) Must be self-directed and able to coordinate the completion of assigned tasks and be willing to accept new challenges on a daily basis.

10) Must comply with MMCAA’s drug free and smoke free facility policies.
