  • Sequestration to have Significant Impact on Agency, Customers

    Sequestration has happened and now the impact on Mid Michigan Community Action and the customers it serves is becoming clearer. It will be significant.

    “When the across the board cuts to the federal budget were signed into law, we at the local level still did not really know what kind of effect it would have on our ability to serve our communities,” Jill Sutton, Mid Michigan Community Action Executive Director said.

  • Mid Michigan Community Action is Single Point of Entry for Bay County Homeless

    In order to ensure that homeless individuals and families are provided comprehensive and efficient services, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) requires a single point of entry for homeless assistance in each county. Mid Michigan Community Action is now serving in that role in Bay County.

  • Home Rehabilitation Grant Awarded to Mid Michigan Community Action

    Mid Michigan Community Action continues to make homes more affordable and healthier through the Weatherization program and will now have the ability to assist homeowners with roof issues and small structural improvements.

    Through a Housing Preservation Grant (HPG) from the United States Department of Agriculture—Rural Development, the agency will be able to address roof and other issues that normally make the home ineligible for other programs.

  • Mid Michigan Walk for Warmth raises over $63,000

    Donations still being accepted

    Mid Michigan Community Action hosted Walk for Warmth events this past Saturday in Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, Midland and Osceola Counties. Between the six events 325 walkers braved the cold to raise funds that will help keep their neighbors warm through emergency utility assistance. The amount collected at the Walk events totals $28,667, but with sponsorship dollars, in-kind and prior fundraising efforts included, the total amount raised stands at $63,329. Donations are still being accepted as Mid Michigan Community Action strives to reach its goal of raising $100,000 for the cause.

  • Mid Michigan Walk for Warmth Seeks Walkers and Sponsors

    Funds raised will benefit the Emergency Utility Assistance Program to help keep families safe and warm

    Mid Michigan Community Action Agency is seeking walkers and sponsors for its annual Walk for Warmth event to help keep the heat on for families that are struggling financially. What better way to enjoy a crisp winter day than strapping on your boots and giving back to those less fortunate?

    The Walk for Warmth event will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Funds will benefit the Emergency Utility Assistance Program. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m.

    The Clare Fire Department and City Police stepped up to help ensure Mid Michigan Community Action’s annual “Hot Wheels” Family Car Show was not swept away by high winds and rain showers.

    Thunderstorms and a heavy downpour didn’t stop families from having an evening full of activities and excitement.

    Mid Michigan Community Action partnered with West Midland Family Center to host Midland’s Family Fun Night Carnival, and the event proved to be quite successful.

    Warm temperatures and breezy, sunny skies have helped bring summer events to their full potential.

    Mid Michigan Community Action Agency has hosted two community events so far this summer, Fun Day in the Park and Fishing with My Family. Both events have brought families together to spend time, gather community resources and have some fun.
