  • Walk for Warmth—Moving Feet to Give Others Heat

    One of the most basic human needs—heat—continues to be difficult for many families across mid-Michigan.

    Mid Michigan Community Action’s 21st Annual Walk for Warmth helps raise awareness of the issue as well as raise funds to help those in need of heat assistance. The Walk will be held in Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, Midland and Osceola Counties on February 25, 2012. Registration is at 9 a.m. with the Walk starting at 10 a.m.

  • Emergency Food Pantry Loses Funding

    At a time when many people are having difficulty providing food for their families, Mid Michigan Community Action’s emergency food pantry will no longer receive grant-based funding.

  • United Way Continues to Make Impact

    As federal and state funding become more difficult to rely on, local agencies like Clare United Way continue to a significant impact in helping those in need.

  • Open Enrollment for Free Commodity Supplemental Food Available to Eligible Seniors

    As mid-Michigan heads into another cold season, many seniors will once again face difficulty in putting food on the table; Mid Michigan Community Action can help. The agency has open enrollment for free supplemental food.

  • Mid Michigan Community Action to Open New Free Preschool Classroom in Farwell

    In partnership with Farwell Schools, Mid Michigan Community Action will open two new, free preschool classrooms for at-risk four-year olds.

    At this point, one classroom will open on November 14; the second will open when enough children are enrolled. The new Community Action Preschools are housed in the Farwell Elementary.

  • Over 450 Come Out for “Hot Wheels” Fatherhood Event and Car Show

    This year over 450 kids, families, volunteers and community partners turned out at Mid Michigan Community Action’s annual fatherhood event and car show to provide families with a free, fun, informative evening of activities, resources and exciting vehicles.

  • Mid Michigan Community Action Helps Nearly 3,000 Families with over $1.5 million in Heat Assistance

    As mid-Michigan families struggle with high unemployment and limited resources, Community Action has helped keep nearly 3,000 families warm with over $1.5 million in heat assistance during this program year.

    The latest Kids Count report released today ranks Michigan below average, 30th overall in state by state rankings.

  • Mid Michigan Community Action Donates to DHS Back to School Program

    To help struggling families with the back to school rush, Mid Michigan Community Action staff donated 223 pairs of socks and $125 to the Clare County DHS’ Back to School Program.

  • New Preschool to Hold Open House

    Heading into its first full school year, the Clare ACTION! Preschool is holding an open house to let parents view the classroom, meet the teacher and gather information.

    The tuition-based program opened in October 2010 as a pilot program and received positive feedback from families.
