Doherty Contributes to Clare Railroad Depot Project

A.J. and Sandy Doherty continue to support the city of Clare through a $5,000 donation to the Clare Rail Depot project which will include moving the Depot from its current location and significant renovations.

The donation is one of several donations that have been made toward the project. The Clare County Arts Council and the Clare Irish Festival Committee have also made notable contributions.

The depot was built by the Ann Arbor and Pere Marquette railroad companies in 1898. Current plans will move the Depot from its current location to Fourth Street directly across from ClareCastle. Mid Michigan Community Action is partnering with the City of Clare on the project and will contribute a portion of the land.

Plans are being developed to bring down the existing structures across from ClareCastle to make room for the Depot. Clare looks forward to the restored depot as it promises to add significant historical and cultural presence to the downtown area as well as serving the community in a multi-use capacity.

Tax deductible donations can be made to Mid Michigan Community Action PO Box 768, Farwell, MI 48622. Please make sure it is noted to the “Clare Depot Project.” A link on MMCAA’s website, www.mmcaa.org, will be up and running soon so that donations can be made online.
