The 2015 Mid Michigan Community Action Agency (Mid Michigan) Clare/Gladwin Walk for Warmth event will bring together human and canine community members in an effort to help warm households facing heating emergencies. Friendly canine companions are encouraged to join their owners with fundraising efforts and participation in the outdoor walk-a-thon. For a pet to become involved their owner is required to register them on the Walk for Warmth website. Once registration is complete, donations can be made on the dog’s behalf. Dogs and their owners will receive exclusive benefits including access to a warming tent and a canine-only prize drawing. Participants do not need a canine friend to attend. The Clare/Gladwin Walk for Warmth will take place on March 7, 2015 at the Doherty Hotel in Clare, Mich. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and is followed by a kickoff ceremony to start the event at 10 a.m. Dogs in attendance must be leashed and remain with their owner at all times.
Participants can also look forward to a special guest appearance by Sheriff's Deputy Larry Kahsin and K-9 Jack of the Clare County sheriff’s department. For those without a dog of their own to walk by their side, donations can be made in K-9 Jack’s name by visiting his fundraising page. The event also marks the culmination of a student organization competition going on right now in local Clare and Gladwin schools. The winner, the organization that brings the biggest crowd, will be announced at the Walk for Warmth and awarded a pizza and bowling party prize.“This year’s Clare/Gladwin Walk for Warmth has some special ways of incorporating a wide range of participants,” said Jill Sutton, executive director of Mid Michigan Community Action. “Mid Michigan looks forward to seeing the variety of faces Saturday morning as we all walk together to keep local homes warm during this frigid winter.”Additional highlights will include an indoor kickoff ceremony, door prizes, entertainment and refreshments. To make a donation on behalf of K-9 Jack Click Here.
