Youth Mentoring Program
Released: 04Nov2004
A new program for Head Start children has been initiated through a partnership with the Clare Pioneer High School. The 14-19 years old, that attend this alternative education program, will serve as mentors to Head Start children ages 0-5 years. The mentors will participate in training opportunities provided by the Clare-Gladwin Literacy Council to prepare them to provide age appropriate literacy activities to the young children. This is a unique opportunity to assist the teens in understanding and participating in meaningful community volunteerism while the younger children receive one-on-one reading activities from a caring mentor.
