Flood Relief

Resources to help recover from flooding in May of 2020 including FEMA, permitting contacts, as well as how to donate and volunteer.

Reconstruction Help is Available for Gladwin Flood Survivors

The Gladwin Long Term Recovery Group is coordinating with volunteer crews to schedule reconstruction assistance for flood survivors with primary residences in Gladwin County. Survivors in need of reconstruction help should call Gladwin County Disaster Case Manager, Carla Long, at 989-598-4315 as soon as possible or dial 2-1-1.
If you are primary homeowner who placed a claim with FEMA but have not yet received an inspection or assistance, please call FEMA at 800-621-3362, TTY: 800-462-7585.

For further assistance with an appeal or for unmet needs from the flood, call Disaster Case Manager, Carla Long, at 989-598-4315, or call 2-1-1.

Applicants who disagree with FEMA decisions have the option to submit an appeal letter with additional documentation to have their case reconsidered. The appeal should include a letter explaining what they are appealing, be signed and dated, and include supporting documentation, such as a copy of a verifiable contractor’s estimate.

Ways to File an Appeal:
Appeals should be submitted 60 days after the initial decision:

  • By mail: FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program, National Processing Service Center, P.O. Box 10055, Hyattsville MD 20782-7055.
  • By fax: 1-800-827-8112.
  • Online via a FEMA online account: to set up an online account, visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov, click on “Check Status” and follow the directions.

Simple rules to protect yourself when hiring contractors to clean property or make repairs • Only use state licensed contractors • Get more than one written estimate before hiring a contractor. Note: you only need one for a FEMA appeal. • Check references and ask for proof of liability insurance and Workers’ Compensation. • Don’t sign a contract with blank spaces and get any guarantees in writing. • Pay in installments, and make the final payment after the work is completed. • Report disaster-related fraud to the Michigan Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at 877-765-8388.
