Connecting Creativity, Nature, and Child Development
Nature Art is an initiative of our Early Head Start program designed to bring families together through hands-on, creative play using materials found in nature. Whether it's leaves, sticks, pinecones, flowers, or stones, we believe the outdoors offers endless inspiration for little artists and their caregivers.
These activities are not only fun, they also support children's development, encourage bonding, and spark learning through exploration. It’s all about building school readiness while creating meaningful memories.
Nature Art is about more than just art, it’s about:
Supporting early development through creative exploration
Offering families time to connect and engage
Helping children build school readiness skills in a fun, accessible way
Celebrating each child’s creativity
Our Community Events
Throughout the year, we'll be hosting Nature Art events. These events invite families to try fun nature-themed art activities in a welcoming, family-friendly setting. When you attend in person, staff are on hand to guide projects and provide tips so families can keep the creativity going at home, but we also offer virtual participation because we understand busy schedules!
After each event, we share participants’ creations to celebrate our budding artists and highlight the power of playful learning.
Want to join in? Check our Events page to see if an upcoming Nature Art event is planned near you. Even if one isn't listed now, we’re always planning new activities, so keep checking back!
Families from across our communities came together to create beautiful nature-inspired art using materials like leaves, twigs, stones, and flowers. Each piece celebrates creativity, connection, and the simple joy of exploring the outdoors together.
In partnership with Artworks! Big Rapids, we were able to showcase these creations in the Alley Gallery throughout November. Families who couldn’t attend the in-person event were also invited to share their artwork from home, helping everyone be part of something bigger.
This project reflects what Early Head Start is all about: supporting families as a whole and building strong, connected communities where children can grow and thrive.
