The light snow that had fallen the night before didn’t prevent participants from walking in Mid Michigan Community Action’s 20th Annual Walk for Warmth.
For 20 years Mid Michigan CAA has been providing assistance to families and individuals in the mid-Michigan area who cannot afford to heat their homes or have home heating related emergencies. Walk for Warmth is essential in raising funds to assist those households.
“It’s important for people to realize there is a problem in our community,” said Sharon Wainman, Mid Michigan Community Action’s outreach services director. “Walk for Warmth raises awareness while raising funds for those in need.”
She said the economic conditions across the state create a bigger need for programs like this.
Participants in Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, Midland and Osceola counties raised nearly $36,000 to assist households with heating costs and home heating emergencies.
“Every little bit helps and in this economy we are grateful people out there are continuing to donate time and money to this cause,” said Wainman.
