The Hardest Part is Knowing Where to Begin

Sometimes life takes unexpected turns, and even the best-laid plans can fall apart. For one couple, a sudden change left them without a home, struggling to get through each day.

They reached out to Mid Michigan Community Action, where they found not just help, but support that empowered them to take the first steps toward a new beginning.
“We were hesitant, wary of being let down again. But then we met MJ and Ny’Taizjah. Their kindness and optimism were like a lifeline in a sea of hopelessness. They gave us more than help, they gave us back our dignity.”

Our team connected them with resources to secure housing and get back on their feet—but the true victory belongs to them. They worked tirelessly, finding steady, full-time jobs with benefits and rebuilding their lives from the ground up.

“They gave us something I never thought I’d feel again: HOPE. Hope that life will get better. Hope that we could overcome. Hope that the world wasn’t as dark and cold as it had seemed.

“Today, my hope has grown into something even bigger: to one day do for someone else what Mid Michigan Community Action did for us. They gave us a second chance, and I will never stop being grateful for that. ”

If you are facing housing challenges, don't wait to reach out for support: call or text 1-877-213-5955 or email [email protected]. Services are available for individuals, families, youth, and veterans across Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, and Osceola Counties as well as veterans who are unhoused or at risk of homelessness in Lake, Newaygo, Midland, and Saginaw Counties.

Every story is unique, and each one reflects the courage and determination of the individuals we serve. Today, we’re sharing the journey of one client whose strength inspires us all!

Finding Safety and Stability:
Determined to rebuild their life after being unhoused, they found employment and, with support from our team, worked tirelessly to secure housing. Recently, they signed a lease and are thrilled to be moving into a safe, stable home of their own!

How We Helped:
"The staff at Mid Michigan Community Action are willing to listen and give you positive feedback, as well as places that are accepting applications. I wasn’t looked down on or turned away because of my situation. Community Action staff greeted me with a warm smile and a sense of comfort."

This client did an incredible job finding hope and growth from an extremely difficult situation—their spirit is truly an inspiration!

Every step matters on the journey to housing and self-sufficiency. Together, we can build stronger, more resilient communities where everyone has a place to call home.
