Community Needs Assessment

Every three years, Mid Michigan Community Action conducts a Community Needs Assessment (CNA) to better understand the strengths, challenges, and priorities across the communities we serve.

This important process helps us gather feedback directly from residents, community partners, and local data sources to guide how we design and deliver our programs.

Why We Do It

The Community Needs Assessment plays a vital role in shaping our work. It helps us:
  • Identify emerging needs in our service area
  • Understand what supports are most important to residents
  • Set priorities for program development and expansion
  • Strengthen funding proposals with community-informed data
  • Make sure our services stay responsive and relevant

Your voice matters—and your input helps us improve how we serve you and your neighbors.

What Happens After the Assessment

Once the CNA is complete, we analyze the results and use them to:
  • Update and refine our current programs
  • Launch new services based on identified needs
  • Prioritize areas where we can make the greatest impact

Our leadership team, board of directors, and community partners use the findings to plan for the future and ensure our services reflect what communities are actually asking for.

Looking Ahead

Our most recent CNA was completed in November 2024. We’ll be adding an amendment to our 2024 CNA in the spring of 2026. We’ll begin our next assessment in 2027, and we’ll be inviting community members like you to participate through surveys, interviews, and local engagement.

Stay tuned for ways to get involved—we want to hear from you!

Past Assessments

2024 Community Needs Assessment
Conducted every three years, the Community Needs Assessment gathers vital data on economic conditions, social services, and resource gaps, ensuring our programs are focused on the most urgent community needs. The 2024 assessment, enriched by feedback from over 1,000 local survey responses and 8 community focus groups, along with data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the KIDS COUNT Data Center, provides a robust foundation for action. Our findings are recorded in the report:

2021 Community Needs Assessment
To complete the 2021 Community Needs Assessment, Mid Michigan Community Action gathered and analyzed the most current demographic community data available, collected survey feedback from a broad cross section of the community and customers, and performed customer interviews to determine both emerging conditions impacting low-income residents and current priority needs. Our findings are recorded in the report:
