Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any special skills or experience?

Many volunteer roles don’t require prior experience, just a willingness to help and learn. Some opportunities, such as internships or senior employment programs, may have specific requirements like student status or eligibility through a partner program. Others may involve physical tasks like lifting, standing, or bending. When you reach out, we’ll help match you with a role that’s a good fit.
How much time do I need to commit?
It’s flexible! Some volunteers help out for an afternoon while others take on ongoing roles. Let us know what works for your schedule, and we’ll help find something that fits.
Can I volunteer as a group or with coworkers?
Absolutely. Volunteering with friends, family, coworkers, or clubs is a great way to give back together. Just let us know you're coming as a group when you reach out.
Where do volunteer activities take place?
Most activities happen at our Community Action Centers or other partner locations across our service area. Some roles may involve outdoor work—we’ll provide all the details ahead of time.
Can volunteering lead to a job at Mid Michigan Community Action?
While volunteering doesn’t guarantee a job, it’s a great way to get involved and learn about our work.
Is there an age requirement to volunteer?
We do have opportunities available for younger volunteers with parental or guardian permission including packing food boxes for seniors at our food warehouse and volunteering at The Cat's Meow.
Do you provide training or orientation?
Yes! We'll walk you through everything you need to know. Depending on your role, that may include training, safety information, a background check, or even orientation. We’ll make sure you feel confident and prepared before you begin.
