Financial Capability Workshops

Money decisions can feel complicated, but you don’t have to figure them out alone.
 
Our HUD-Certified Housing Counselors offer free virtual workshops to help renters, homebuyers, and homeowners feel more confident with credit, debt, housing, and planning ahead.
 
Workshops are held online and are open to anyone. Morning and evening sessions are available year-round.

Our workshops are run by HUD-Certified Housing Counselors and cover topics like:

Foreclosure Prevention for Mortgages
Learn the foreclosure timeline, what notices mean, and what options may be available if you’re behind on mortgage payments.

Foreclosure Prevention for Property Taxes
Understand how tax foreclosure works and explore options if you’re behind on property taxes.

Debt Reduction and Credit Scoring
Learn how credit reports and credit scores work, what affects them, and steps you can take to manage or reduce debt.

Financial Disaster Preparedness
Learn how to prepare your finances for emergencies so you’re ready for the unexpected.

Spending and Savings Plan
Learn how to build a simple spending plan (budget) and set realistic savings goals.

Home Pre-Purchase Education
Explore the first steps toward homeownership, from getting ready to talk with a lender to what to expect in the buying process.

Who Workshops Are For

​Workshops are a good fit for:

  • First-time homebuyers who want to learn the steps to homeownership
  • Homeowners who want to better understand mortgages, taxes, or foreclosure prevention
  • Anyone who wants to feel more confident about credit, debt, and everyday money decisions
 
You don’t need any prior knowledge to attend. Workshops are designed to be simple, practical, and welcoming.

What to Expect

​During a workshop, you can expect:
  • A live, virtual session led by a HUD-Certified Housing Counselor
  • Clear information in plain language
  • Time for questions, as possible
  • Handouts or follow-up resources when available
 
You can join from home by phone, computer, or tablet, depending on the session details.

Our HUD-certified housing counselors offer free, confidential help with renting, buying a home, mortgage or property tax concerns, and building a budget that works for you. They explain your options in plain language so you can make informed decisions about your housing and money.

Homebuyer education helps you get ready to buy a home with confidence. Our HUD-certified housing counselors walk you through your budget, credit, and each step of the homebuying process, from getting ready to buy through closing and beyond.

Our HUD-certified Housing Counselors can help you understand letters about mortgage or property tax foreclosure, talk through your options, and make a plan to try to keep your home when possible. They’ll walk alongside you, explain next steps in clear language, and connect you with other resources that may help.

​Property Tax Help
If you’re behind on property taxes or getting letters from the county, our staff can help you understand what they mean and talk through your options. In some situations, our property tax program may be able to help with a portion of past-due taxes, and we’ll always work with you to make a plan to move forward.
