Today, Victoria is thriving! She is just two semesters away from completing dual degrees in Mechatronics and Skilled Trades Electrical Programs at Delta College. Her hard work and dedication have earned her recognition on the Dean’s List, Vice President’s List, and now the President’s List with a 4.0 GPA! On top of her academic success, she works 45 hours a week, has completed her first internship, and is a candidate for a long-term co-op position.
Victoria’s achievements go beyond education and work. She has improved her credit, purchased a car, and discovered a passion for helping others through volunteer work. Looking ahead, she is on track to purchase her first home through the MSHDA Key to Own program in part from escrowing funds as part of the self-sufficiency program. "I am excited to see what else I can achieve before I graduate the FSS program and continue in the Key to Own program. Thank you for showing me this was all possible!" —Victoria Victoria’s story is a testament to the power of determination and support. We are so proud of her and grateful to be a part of her journey! as a family, and we've been able to get some wonderful books so that we can share with each other. Since joining the Early Head Start (EHS) program "I feel empowered by Linda and the information that she provides me with. She has always told me that I am my child’s first teacher, and I truly feel that since working with the program. "My child is so excited to see Miss Linda through Zoom and in-person and loves to watch activities that she shows examples of and listen to books that she reads. The videos on SeeSaw have been helpful to bring new ideas for my child. "Linda does not just teach my child, she provides me with the tools and teaches me how to practice skills throughout the week. Since joining EHS program, my child has improved significantly with his vocabulary and his speech is becoming easier to understand. "I feel more confident as a parent since joining the EHS program." —Kristine, Early Head Start parent Our Early Head Start program provides support and resources for families from the time they're expecting through the toddler years.
By acting as an ally to parents and caregivers, our Early Head Start Home Based Educators help support healthy development and build school readiness. "Being a teacher during this time has been one of the hardest and also one of the most rewarding times in my teaching career. In the last 13 years I have done a lot, but nothing prepares you for a situation like this one. I am currently being pushed by inner motivation to find ways to engage with children I can no longer see, to create opportunities for children to learn while at home during a time that is less than normal. I'm tasked with helping to support parents to find confidence to be their child's teacher, even though they have been the child's first teacher all along. I've created projects to send home; I'm writing letters; I'm making weekly phone calls; I'm sending texts; and I have even created videos so 'my kids' can see my face. I'm a teacher; that didn't stop when the doors to the school closed, it only ignited a deeper fire within myself to help support 'my kids.' These students may not remember me one day, but I will remember them, and I will look back and smile, because they are the ones helping this teacher become better each and everyday." Heather, teacher Though our physical preschool classrooms are closed, our services and work continue. Our staff are doing everything we can to ensure we are serving the needs of our communities, especially through this difficult and stressful time.
She is growing and sharing her love of learning with our family. Since we've enrolled in Head Start, we read more at home, and we make it a point to use descriptive and expressive language. I hope her curiosity and love of learning that bloomed in Head Start are never stifled." Our Preschool Head Start Program aims to foster a love of learning in children while giving them a safe and supportive classroom environment so they can successfully transition into kindergarten.
Because all of our students are so unique, that journey looks a little different for each of them. |
