This Homeless Awareness Month, we’re celebrating Mike, a dedicated landlord who partners with us to provide safe, clean, and affordable housing, helping those experiencing housing insecurity transition to stability.
A Commitment to Community: Mike’s partnership is invaluable—he provides well-maintained housing and helps connect tenants with resources to overcome challenges. Why Mike Works With Us: "I work with Mid Michigan Community Action because everyone needs a home. I try to provide safe, clean places to live and make a home. . . . I try to work with the whole person, not just the immediate circumstance." A Message to the Community: "Homelessness happens every day . . . often due to circumstances beyond control. Everyone needs a hand up, not a handout." Mike’s compassion and dedication remind us all that creating safe and stable housing is a collective effort. Community participation is vital in ending homelessness! If you’re a landlord interested in working with us, call or text 1-877-213-5955 or email [email protected] to learn more. If you are facing housing challenges, reach out for support at 1-877-213-5955 or email [email protected]. Services are available for individuals, families, youth, and veterans across Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, and Osceola Counties as well as veterans who are unhoused or at risk of homelessness in Lake, Newaygo, Midland, and Saginaw Counties.

A huge thank you to the incredible students from CMU’s College of Medicine for their generosity and hard work!
These future healthcare professionals held a drive to collect personal needs items for our Clare County Food Pantry and packed boxes for our USDA food box program, which serves individuals aged 60 and older. Your commitment to giving back and supporting our community is inspiring! We are so grateful for your dedication to making a difference! Thank you, CMU! If you are interested in volunteering to pack food boxes at our warehouse in Farwell, please contact our Food Programs Manager Tracy at 989-229-0849 or [email protected] or complete an interest form online: https://www.mmcaa.org/volunteering.html Marie is our incredible volunteer at the Clare County Food Pantry, dedicating her time three days a week! She warmly greets customers when they visit and ensures their needs are met with patience and care.
Marie also helps keep our pantry stocked and is always ready to lend a hand wherever she's needed—whether it’s packing food boxes or sharing her positive experiences to inspire others to join as volunteers! We’re so grateful for Marie’s dedication and the difference she makes in our community every day. Would you like to volunteer at our food warehouse? Call 989-229-0849 or visit https://www.mmcaa.org/volunteering.html Congratulations to Lear Corporation for their recognition at Michigan Community Action's Legislative Day! Lear was nominated by our Early Head Start staff for their ongoing support
Thank you to Isabella Bank staff for volunteering at our commodities warehouse for their Compassion into Action day. By the end of the day, the volunteers packed 1008 food boxes, sorted 14 pallets of donations, and assembled 186 bags of personal needs items!
We couldn’t do what we do without volunteers, and the Isabella bank crew did an amazing job helping us continue to deliver our commodities programs. For today's community spotlight, we'd like to thank Family Fun Princesses for donating her time and talents for a virtual story time with our Early Head Start and Head Start children!
The Ice Queen read, sang, and interacted with the children, taking the time to speak with each child as well as answering questions. Thank you Family Fun Princesses for helping to instill a love of reading in our Head Start and Early Head Start children! Part of Alyssa's grand prize was a donation to the non-profit of her choice, and she selected Mid Michigan Community Action to receive this gift.
"When Lands' End contacted me about a 501c3 that I would like to gift the money to, I knew I wanted to keep it locally. MMCAA does a lot to help out our local community in just about all aspects of life. You have programs to help just about everyone!" —Alyssa, Lands' End sweepstakes winner. In appreciation of this donation, here's a huge thank you to Lands' End and Alyssa! Especially now, these funds will certainly go a long way towards giving those in our communities who are struggling a hand up. For today's community spotlight, we'd like to recognize TCF Bank for their generous donation!
Their contribution will go towards funding our Financial Literacy programming, including money management and homebuyer education, as well as our Walk for Warmth fund which helps keep our neighbors warm during the winter month with emergency utility assistance. Congratulations to our tax preparation volunteers for helping our program be recognized with an Honorable Mention in Rural Initiatives for our efforts to bring our tax preparation services to the rural areas in our counties!
In the recent IRS VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Partner Recognition Ceremony, our program was one of twenty-two partners from the thousands nationwide to receive an Honorable Mention in this category, and one of only two Michigan VITA partners to receive recognition in any category. We would like to give a special thank you to our volunteers who make this program what it is, especially this year when the season ended differently than we had hoped or planned. We owe so much to our volunteers, who give this program their time and support, and thank you all for your contributions. If you would like to volunteer with us, visit our volunteering page to learn more.
Community members offered up their front porches for the book drop offs. Thank you to Maggie S., Holly C., Chris M., and Sarah C., as well as Cardinal Rule Press Founder Maria's children and nieces for sorting and packaging the books!
The donated books will be used to help flood survivors rebuild their family libraries. |
