Community Spotlight: A Year of Learning, Service, and Growth

Over the 2025-2026 school year, Mid Michigan Community Action had the opportunity to work alongside Cam, a Social Work student from Ferris State University who completed his internship with our agency.

Working primarily with Outreach Coordinator Stephannie, Cam gained hands-on experience in many different areas of our work. Throughout the year, he participated in food distributions, attended community meetings and events, supported outreach efforts, and learned more about the many ways Community Action serves local individuals and families.

Internships provide students with valuable real-world experience, but they also bring fresh perspectives, energy, and enthusiasm to our programs. We are grateful for the time Cam spent with our agency and the contributions he made throughout his internship.

As a small token of appreciation, staff gathered to celebrate Cam's completion of his internship and wish him well in his next chapter. During the celebration, team members surprised him with a jersey from his time as a student-athlete at Ferris State University, a meaningful reminder of another important part of his journey.

At Mid Michigan Community Action, we believe in helping people reach their goals, whether that's through our programs and services, volunteering, internships, or other opportunities to get involved. We are proud to have been a small part of Cam's educational journey and look forward to seeing where his future takes him.

Thank you, Cam, and best wishes on all that comes next!

Tax Preparation Program Received Honorable Mention in Rural Initiatives from the IRS

Congratulations to our tax preparation volunteers for helping our program be recognized with an Honorable Mention in Rural Initiatives for our efforts to bring our tax preparation services to the rural areas in our counties!

In the recent IRS VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Partner Recognition Ceremony, our program was one of twenty-two partners from the thousands nationwide to receive an Honorable Mention in this category, and one of only two Michigan VITA partners to receive recognition in any category.

We would like to give a special thank you to our volunteers who make this program what it is, especially this year when the season ended differently than we had hoped or planned. We owe so much to our volunteers, who give this program their time and support, and thank you all for your contributions.

If you would like to volunteer with us, visit our volunteering page to learn more.

Thank you to all of our tax preparation volunteers!

Today for our community spotlight, we'd like to thank a few organizations and individuals for working together to make and arrange a donation of water and sanitizer: Michigan Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, Sunrise Church of Midland, Terry Wilson, and Bay Area Baptist Association of Michigan.
We have been incredibly moved by so many coming together to help their neighbors in need with everything going on, and these folks are a stellar example of that!

From Southern Baptist Disaster Relief who obtained the sanitizer and water to Sunrise Church of Midland who stored it to Terry Wilson who brought his forklift to load these items onto our truck so we could transport them to aid in our relief efforts in Gladwin, they have all truly made a difference in their community.

Meet Cameron, our latest Community Spotlight!

Cameron volunteers for Walk for Warmth. He went to our Gladwin County Volunteer Picnic last month and was so excited for the cookbook that was in his appreciation bag. He's been making a new recipe out of it every day! Here he is with the cookies he made from the recipe in the cookbook.
