💙 Today, we’re spotlighting Caitlin Harmon, one of our Housing Specialists.

Housing Specialists work with individuals and families experiencing housing instability. They help customers look at safe housing options, connect with shelter or temporary housing when available, explore possible help with rent, deposits, or utilities
through available programs, and build a plan for more stable housing over time.

We asked Caitlin what she likes about working here, and this is what she had to say: “No two days are the same, and there is flexibility in providing solutions to the issues that are happening in our communities.”

Community Action works because of the people who show up every day with care, purpose, and heart.

Today, we’re spotlighting Terri, our Early Intervention Coordinator for Head Start Preschool. Terri has been with Mid Michigan Community Action for four years and plays an important
role in helping children, families, and classroom staff get the support they need. She can often be found visiting classrooms, connecting with staff, and helping make sure children have what they need to learn, grow, and take part in classroom life.

When we asked what motivates her to do her best work each day, Terri said it’s the reminder that she can make a difference, “even if it is small and hard to immediately see.”

Terri loves working with children with developmental, behavioral, or learning needs, their families, and the staff who work hard to support them. She brings both professional experience and personal understanding to her role, and she hopes her work helps remind families that they are not alone.

Thank you, Terri, for the care, understanding, and steady support you bring to children, families, and staff. You’re helping make Community Action real every day.

Attending Homeless Advocacy Day

4/24/2026

On April 21, members of Mid Michigan Community Action's housing stability team traveled to Lansing to participate in Homeless Advocacy Day.

The event brought together service providers, advocates, and community organizations from across Michigan to learn about current challenges facing individuals and families experiencing homelessness, share ideas, and strengthen connections with others working toward solutions.

For our staff, the day provided an opportunity to learn from statewide partners, hear about emerging trends and resources, and bring new knowledge back to the communities we serve. Opportunities like this help ensure our team stays informed and prepared to support individuals and families facing housing challenges.

We are proud of our staff for their commitment to continued learning and professional growth. By investing time in training, networking, and collaboration, they help strengthen the services and support available throughout our region.

Thank you to our housing stability team for representing Mid Michigan Community Action and for the important work you do every day.

Congratulations to Mandy, one of our April featured employees!

You can sing, dance, do crafts, be silly, go on adventures, and create some neat core memories to build from. Preschool is one of the most important stages in the entire education system. Preschool quietly builds the foundation for everything that comes after.”
Thank you, Mandy, for the energy, creativity, and care you bring to your classroom each day. The impact you have on young learners and their families truly helps build a strong foundation for the future!

Disaster Relief Training in Action!

10/10/2025

Picture
Our HUD Certified Housing Counselors joined six other agencies for a hands-on disaster response training exercise held at the Gladwin County Fairgrounds.

The training simulated a Point of Distribution mission, focusing on setting up a shelter and processing victims in a disaster scenario. Participants guided simulated victims through registration, health assessments, HUD counseling, and more—gaining valuable experience in a multi-agency emergency response.

A big thank you to Emergency Manager Bob North, the Civil Air Patrol, Gladwin County Emergency Management, and all participating agencies for creating such a meaningful training opportunity.
